of the 25th February, 1883, was approved of the transfer, and a minute forwarding this, directing the transfer to take place, was sent to the Governor.
His Excellency, in acknowledging this minute in a letter dated 22nd January, stated "I think it would be only fair to reconsider the Registrar's salary if duties and responsibilities are to be increased.
Under your kind understanding, I have ascertained from the Registrar that he cannot do twice the duties. And I leave the question as to remuneration to the Secretary of State."
The Land Office was accordingly transferred to the Registrar on the 18th June 1883.
Doubts having arisen as to my precise duties in connection with the Land Office, on the 28th August, I addressed His Excellency the Governor on these duties, and the remuneration for the same.
In consequence, my duties have been defined as follows:
